Russian film festival returns
In its eleventh year, the film festival, Russian Resurrection, will once again give the audience the best of Russian cinema from a wide variety of genres.
“It is through the cinema we can reach a deeper understanding of Russia and enhance the conversation”, says Vyacheslav Telnov, director of the department of cinematography.
He also says that the Russian Resurrection Festival plays a more important role this year more than any other years before: “It is no doubt a difficult year to stage a Russian film festival. But it is through cultural engagement we can foster dialogue.”
The festival will present a varied and uncompromising view of Russian culture that can provide the audience with the diversity of voices and ideas that are present in Russian cinema and also the society from which it emerges.
Today, the Russian cinema is an integral feature of Australia-Russian cultural relations. The films that are presented to the viewers will tell about Russia’s life and aspirations of today.
“It is indeed heartening to know that the festival already has its own followers and its own history”, says Telnov.
It is also worth mentioning that this year is the first time the festival is heading across the seas to New Zealand. And of course, we will not get away without a shot of vodka! Enjoy.
