A Taste Of Honey October 23 2014
I spent last weekend with two very special people in Auckland,N.Z. – Dale (pic.far left) and Gillian Wrightson (pic.inside left). I went to see Dale who is living with a degenerative disease called progressive supranuclear palsy (SNP) because I wanted to spend support time with both he and Gilli. Dale is a major mentor of mine-he was the principal of the advertising agency (that for several companies I worked for) did all the creative work and he also employed me as his agent for a successful merchandising project in Australia. He inspired me to take risks, and together we enjoyed many successes from 1975-2016 – and with his lovely wife Gilli, we have become very close family. Over the last four days we played lots of music, abused the YouTube catalogue, laughed a lot and had more than a few drinks. I am sharing some of the music from artistes that we took risks with, some other tracks that we laugh with everytime we see each other and three tracks just for Gilli ( thanks for your help Cole Porter and Charlie Chaplin ).
I continue to be inspired by Dale and Gilli and salute them for the positive way in which they are dealing with the challenge that they face.
I know that many people are dealing with various challenges in their lives so would like to use a quote from Harry Nilsson – one of my favourite recording artists and composers ;
“I believe that most men live lives of quiet desperation. For despair, optimism is the only practical solution. Hope is practical. Because eliminate that and it’s pretty scary.
Hope at least gives you the option of living.”
I send my love to these two and to all Eastside 89.7fm supporters – I hope you enjoy the music on today’s show as much as I have enjoyed putting it together.
