A Taste Of Honey November 6 2014

bbthe shadowsfreddie  Acker-BilkMy life resonates with  music – as I do every  day, I walk my dog in the  early morning and listen  to many and varied  tracks on my 64 GB   iPodBrian Wilson, that  magician of music’ from The Beach Boys (pic.far left) spoke of his fears of depression and more importantly social alienation in the song ‘I Wasn’t Made For These Times’ and that was in 1966 – 48 years ago. I thought life was really simple for us back in the 60’s compared to these days of social media and technology that has cycles of hours – one wonders how the current generation will look back on today in music terms and lifestyle 40-50 years from now. I feel a little bewildered sometimes by today’s cutting edge music, the technology and the social media, however by embracing the good parts I never feel alienated. In addition, I am really fortunate to be able to  reflect on a period of music that was synonymous with our lifestyle -I lived it(as much as one could in a country city in New Zealand with only radio and no TV) and I had a great time at the local dances and saw every rock ‘n’ roll movie, musical and show of local and overseas artistes that I could afford to. Today’s show features tracks (mostly ‘one of’ huge hits) which were created by RADIO for the most part and are pretty much lost to today’s programming. I hope you can remember some of them and smile and reflect with me.
So come back  to the days of The Beach Boys, The Shadows (pic.2nd left), Freddie and The Dreamers (pic.3rd left), Mr Acker Bilk (pic.4th left), Tommy Roe, Billy Joe Royal,  Crispian St Peters, Gerry & The Pacemakers and MORE.
Songs about our times back then, life and romance and melodies that stuck in your brain.
Talking of melody, Mr Acker Bilk left us on November 2 at the great age of 85 to play “Stranger On The Shore “ for that great entertainment community up in the sky (or is it The Cloud ?). RIP Acker Bilk.
