Ruth Roshan & Tango Noir
Ruth Roshan and her quintet, Tango Noir, have recorded three albums of melodic Tango inspired pieces and songs. Their third album has just been released, and combines lush arrangements with Ruth’s bittersweet lyrics to create music which is both elegant and beautiful.
The group consists of Amir Farid on the piano, Phil Carroll on the accordion, Aaron Barnden on the violin, Caerwen Martin on the cello and of course, Ruth Roshan on the mandolin with stunning vocals. This group have performed at many National Festivals and venues and notably are regular performers at the Paris Cat Jazz Club.
Below is a clip from a performance at the Ellington Jazz Club, last year:
For one night only, Ruth & Tango Noir will grace the Randwick Town Hall stage for a special performance on Friday 20 February, presented by Randwick Council Twilight Series.
Roshan says of the performance: ‘we have prepared a varied program with songs and instrumentals – some happy, some cheeky, some melancholy, some virtuosic, but all with something Tango’. The audience will witness ‘five people who have dedicated their lives to music and really enjoy playing together’.
The program will include the very gentle and beautiful ‘Soft Light’ and ‘Soledad’ by Piazzolla, plus at least one wonderful, flashy violin solo!
