TAKE FIVE – THE DAVE BRUBECK STORY
Take Five – highest-selling jazz instrumental of all time
Let’s take the track ‘Take Five’, merge it with the uniqueness of Fitzgerald’s Quartet and add some extraordinary rhythms.
That seems to be the secret of Brendan Fitzgerald’s recreation of the story of jazz legend Dave Brubeck, one of the foremost exponents of cool jazz. Brendan’s Quartet succeeds in implementing the new composition authentically yet with their own interpretative touch. We all know this fabulous track, however on Saturday the 6th March you have the chance to gain a new musical experience.
Brendan is a composer, pianist and music theatre performer working in Australia, Europe and Asia. The piano is not the only instrument mastered by the Australian all-rounder, the accordion and the guitar belong to Brendan’s repertoire as well. The quartet comprises Andy Firth, internationally recognised alto sax/clarinet genius, Satomi Ohnishi (Japan) percussion, Quentin Dunne, double bass and Brendan on piano.
The performance of the story of Dave Brubeck highlights his genius, his relationships, his humanity and his success, completed with visual elements.
‘Brendan Fitzgerald Quartet is a very impressive unit. This concert of rhythmically and harmonically complex and difficult music shows just how good this group is.’ – Cabaret Broadway World, June 2013
