A Taste Of Honey April 2 2015
Its already April and as we know it heralds the start of autumn in the Southern Hemisphere and the start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. April was named by the Romans in honor of their goddess of love, fertility and beauty – Venus. The month of April is important for many observances, the best known being Easter and Good Friday, Passover, Budda’s Birthday and of course significantly for Australasia, ANZAC Day. The month of April has been captured by many songwriters and performers and this week’s programme features some of the obvious classics performed by (pictured from left to right) Judy Garland & Fred Astaire, Sarah Vaughn & Clifford Brown, Boz Scaggs. In addition songs about April or that include April in their lyrics that are not so well known, are also featured with performances by Prince, Southern Comfort, Australia’s Lior and also composer Bruce Rowland, Three Dog Night, Vic Damone and more.
Given the time of the season, there is also a medley from the Australian cast album of ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ and for our listeners who celebrate Passover, a great version of ‘Hine Mat Tov by Harry Belafonte.
The words of this song from the Book Of Psalms – Psalm 133 are fitting I believe for the situation that the current world finds itself in:
‘Behold how good and how pleasing
If brothers(and sisters) could sit together in unity’
