Album of the Week – Francesca Prihasti ‘Night Trip’

‘Night Trip’ by Francesca Prihasti is Eastside Radio’s Album of the Week. Eastside is proud to help promote this young up-and-coming Sydney based pianist who exhibits a talent far beyond her years. The Jakarta national graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium with a Bachelor of Music (Jazz Performance) in 2012, after discovering a love for the Jazz tradition in high school. Her studies brought her into contact with the crème-de-la-crème in Australian and global Jazz including Judy Bailey, Kevin Hunt, Mike Nick, Greg Coffin, John Harkins, Matt McMahon, Aaron Goldberg (USA) and Aaron Parks (USA).

Prihasti took no time to start to pay her dues in and around the Sydney live scene, appearing at the Jazzgroove Association, Venue 505, Foundry 616, Colbourne Avenue, Dome Bar, and the Manly Jazz Festival. She has also shared the stage with the likes of Dave Goodman, Richard Maegraith, Carl Dewhurst, James Waples and Dale Barlow. ‘Night Trip’ showcases Prihasti’s intuitive talent to meld her influences from Latin, Classical, Pop, Folk, and Ethnic Music through the catalyst of Jazz. The album was recorded in late September of 2014 and features New York City musicians bassist Marco Panascia,  and drummer Ulysses Owens Jr, as well as Sydney local Nic Vardanega (guitar). Vardanega is also a featured artist within Prihasti’s core quartet alongside Dave Goodman (drums), David Groves (double bass).
