This week’s program is devoted to ANZAC Day, this year marking the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign. In the first half hour of the show, we will hear accounts of the campaign from those who were there. Ellis Silas wrote a diary, excerpts of which we heard last year in our Life Interrupted series, based on the exhibition of the same name at the State Library of NSW. The excerpt we will hear, describing landing at ANZAC Cove on 25 April 1915, is read by a professional actor and reproduced courtesy of the State Library of NSW. The second piece comes from a newly released ABC recording called ANZAC Voices. Martin Buzacott has compiled the excerpts from interviews with servicemen from the ABC archives. The piece we will hear is called Everything on Gallipoli Rattled Your Nerves.

At 11:00 am, my special guest is Professor Sean Brawley, professor of history at Macquarie University, talking about the battle itself in 1915: some myths and truths. I know you will enjoy meeting him and listening to him!

Music today is all ANZAC Day related – mostly contemporary music celebrating the event and some commissioned for this 100th anniversary.
