“She has her own distinctive style and sound and her interpretation of a song is truly unique. She must be heard in a live setting to be wholly appreciated” –Nancy Wilson

New York powerhouse vocalist Vivian Sessoms has collaborated with a long list of elite musicians ranging from Chris Botti (jazz trumpeter), Harold Mabern(legendary jazz pianist), Eric Benet, Will downing, Towa Tei (Dee-Lite), Ryuichi Sakamoto (Japanese Composer), David Morales (DJ), Junior Vazquez (DJ), and Rob Thomas (Matchbox 20) and has toured internationally with the aforementioned artists.

In addition to a long list of tours and collaborations, Vivian has written and produced for several well-known artists throughout the music industry including Lalah Hathaway, Towa Tei, Amel Larrieux and Ryuichi Sakamoto, as well as for film and television.

If that wasn’t enough, Vivian’s talented vocal abilities has been in strong demand singing backing vocals for Christina Aguilera, Cher, Joe Cocker, P!nk, Patti Labelle, Patti Austin, Natalie Cole and Chaka Khan to name just a few.

Vivian, a native of Harlem, New York, was born with the love of music instilled in her as the daughter of prominent musicians. Her mother was a former jingle and session singer, her father a well-known percussionist and flautist who worked with James Brown and several other notable musicians throughout his career. In addition, Vivian is also the niece of jazz legend Nancy Wilson. Her parents began classically training her voice and giving her piano instruction at the age of nine.

“As Vivian sang the first few lyrics of the classic song “At Last”, I thought the heavens had opened up and rained down some of the best singing and performance style I had ever heard” – Patti Austin

It wasn’t long before she was so well versed in her craft, that she won a scholarship to the highly acclaimed AMAS | Eubie Blake Repertory Company headed by the late Rosetta Lenoire. This is where she began training in theatre, dance and music, which eventually led her to a successful run in radio and television voiceovers before taking the world by storm in her own right as a solo artist.

Billboard magazine referred to Vivian’s voice as ‘exquisite’, Uptown magazine called her ‘powerful’, and Urban Network magazine called her first single ‘Sunny One Day ‘an impressive debut, so polished and effortless sounding, it’s as if it bonds to your DNA and defies you to stop playing it.’
