With the winter school holidays approaching you might be looking for some entertaining activities to bring the whole family along to.
One of the more traditional outings for the kids is the circus. In the Sydney opera house for two weeks your not-so-ordinary circus will be performing some great skills and talents. The Flying Fruit Fly Circus returns with their show "Circus Under My Bed", magical show for anyone with a love of circus, dance and physical theatre with an enthralling mix of old-world circus, vaudeville and classic story-telling for young people and families.

Circus Under My Bed was nominated as Best Visual or Physical Theatre Production at the 2014 Helpmann Awards after it had a sell out season last year.

You are guaranteed to be impressed with the talent of the 16 young performers who will make you wish you became an acrobat or tight rope walker. The young performers of the 'Fruities' - Australia's world-famous national youth circus - are aged from just 9 to 19, you might end up having a few evil kinevels running around the house afterwards with the performers inspiring tricks.

If you are not sure about where and who is going to be your next gig then think no more as for their second time hitting the foundry 616, Men of Soul will be giving some exciting entertainment.

This show will be Armondo Hurley and Kimi Tupaea, who will be singing notes that will blast the room and giving a perfomance that will leave you wanting more.

They will be performing music from Luther Vandross, George Benson, Boz Scaggz, Al Jarreau, Earth wind & fire, Toto, Marvin Gaye, and many more.

To fill in another great night on the calendar listening to some top quality vocalists why not please your ears and go party.

With National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee week happening from the 5th to the 12th of July, there is going to be lots of events and activities on nationally.

In last week's community billboard we told you about the Lawn Library that will be taking place in Hyde park which will be a great day out to sit back and relax.

One of the other great events taking place is going to be NAIDOC Cultural Island Experience. Usually to get the full experience and to immerse yourself in exciting Aboriginal activities you have to travel out of the city, however during this special week you can hop on a ferry and travel across the harbour to the beautiful Clark Island, where you can disembark onto the Island with a traditional welcome to Country and Smoke Ceremony, before exploring at your leisure. Observe cultural dance performances, participate in sand painting and hand stencilling or learn about the history on a guided tour and learn about bush tucker, flora, fauna and hunting techniques and also finish your day off with a BBQ.

A great day out to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture, while feeling you have gone out to the bush when you are only across the harbour.

When: Monday 6th to Wednesday the 8th of July.

For all you sweet tooths out there you are in for a treat as Sydney is going to be getting a festival dedicated just to desserts this July.

The grand ballroom of the Shangri-La hotel, will be turned into Sweet Street, a star studded line up of 9 top pastry and dessert stars includes Anna Polyviou, Adriano Zumbo, Gelato Messina, LuxBite, Cacao, Kirsten Tibballs, N2 Extreme Gelato, Black Star Pastry and Andy Bowden.

The hotel will bring you to a world of wild colour, flavour and funky beats with break-dancers, three DJs, food stalls and amazing prizes.

So if you are looking to bring your tastebuds to heaven and indulge in some of the best deserts around pop along to sweet street, it's sure to bring a smile to anybody's face.

If you are a book worm, why not stock up your shelves and buy a few books in aid of a great cause, as Lifeline's annual second-hand book sale is on again.

This is not your average book fair, as there will be more than 80,000 books, CDs, DVDs and computer games that have been selected, cleaned and sorted into over 50 categories for easy browsing.
No need to fear routing through heaps and heaps of books and DVD's of all genres thrown in a pile together, you will be able to go straight to your favourite choice.

There will be pristine fiction at a fraction of retail prices, non-fiction on all topics - from sport to science, from travel to true-crime, and everything in between, a vast mix of high quality children's books, sorted into age groups, and a large selection of stamps and a separate category of 'collectible' books.

The proceeds go to Lifeline, who provide 24/7 crisis support and suicide prevention services.

Another great festival happening right here in our eastern suburbs is Bondi Feast. It's in its fourth year and is back even bigger and better with lots of entertainment, with 11 Nights, 50+ Performances, and 100+ Artists.

To celebrate all the best in home-grown theatre, music, comedy, visual arts and food, it is sure to bring you some liveliness in these cold winter evenings. It will be taking over the entire Bondi Pavilion building, to showcase performances from Sydney’s finest writers, comedians, storytellers and theatre makers.

If you want to focus on your theatre skills then join the party and take part in a detailed workshop on tips of your talent, or if you feel like taking a stroll along Bondi on a winter evening having some lovely South East Asian hawker foods then head to the beach as its going to a buzz of talent and fun.

For all you fitness fanatics out there who just love taking part in a run, the Sydney Harbour 10k and 5k is back giving you the chance to run around the Sydney Harbour on a flat and fast course.

Whatever you feel that you will be able to manage there are options for everyone's comfort, the 10k is perfect if you have signed up for a winter or spring classic and want to get some training in that's not in the gym, while the 5k can be a great day out for all the family having a fun healthy day checking out all the lovely sights that Sydney harbour has to offer.

You can also run for one of the great causes you might be close to, some of the many charities that are involved with the run are Australian Red Cross, Cancer Council NSW, WWF, Autism Spectrum Australia and many more.

Amnesty International Randwick and Eastern Suburbs are proud to present their second series of Living Library, an evening of conversation with Anita Heiss.

This session will be a platform where guest speaker Anita will speak about her memoir Am I Black Enough For You? and also talk about her role as an Indigenous Literacy Day Ambassador.

Anita"s memoir was awarded the VIC Premier's Literacy Award for Indigenous Writing in 2012. Anita Heiss often speaks and lectures at international arenas and runs creative writing workshops.

If you feel that the subject of human rights is something that you would like to discuss more with somebody, and to share opinions with like-minded people on such an important issue, than this will definitely be an event where you can be comfortable asking whatever you want regarding peoples journey to brighter futures and to hear of experiences of human rights issues from around the world.
