Welcome Philip

Hello Everyone.

My name is Philip Mokkenstorm and I am a 24-year-old media and entertainment student from the Netherlands. I currently started a three-month internship at Eastside Radio.

When I was about 15 years old, I gained a lot of curiosity and interest in film, TV and music. I started doing short film projects with my classmates and put much of my time into it, hence I kept having a soft spot for music, so I decided to follow my hart and went for the music industry.

Why the soft spot? When my father was my age, he was DJ for the largest student association of Rotterdam. He just could not go through any day without having music surround him, up till now he always has the radio on at home.

Having always the radio on at home I could say that I grew up with the disco and rock n roll music from the 60’s and 70’s my dad used to play when he was young.

Eventually I got older and at the age of 17 I discovered the dance scene. Till now I still have my eyes on it and like al the different genres and changes it brings. I want to write my final thesis about it; I am still looking for an interesting subject.

With an internship at Eastside Radio I obtain more insight in the music’s management and its technical aspects of broadcasting it. Eastside Radio provides more specialist music from funk up to jazz but without these fundamental music genres, my generation would not have known the music they are listening on this moment. I would say never lose sight on this kind of music.
