DIG IN & Celebrate 20 Years of National Tree Day

Planet Ark is celebrating 20 years of planting trees, and is urging Australians to take part in the country’s largest community nature-care and tree planting events on Friday 24 July (Schools Tree Day) and Sunday 26 July (National Tree Day).

Each year over 250,000 people take part in National Tree Day events at 3,000 sites organised by councils, schools, businesses, communities and Toyota Dealers across the country.

Waverley Council invites all residents to be part of Planet Ark’s National Tree Day and help sow 1700 native plants at Diamond Bay Reserve on Sunday 26 July.

“This is a great way to connect with nature and restore and rejuvenate our coastline,” Waverley Mayor Sally Betts said.

“In addition to getting down and dirty, Waverley Council is hosting a yoga class to start the day, led by tree-hugging yogi, Diogo Netto,” Mayor Betts added.

National Tree Day at Diamond Bay reserve commences at 9am with an optional hour-long yoga class. At 10am, organisers will hand out the native vegetation for planting. A barbeque lunch will be provided from noon, which will include vegetarian and kosher options.

For those participating, Council recommends they bring a yoga mat or towel, suitable clothing to get dirty in, shoes, a hat and water bottle. Council will provide gloves and gardening equipment.
