Arts Thursday is unclassifiable!
Quite frankly, it’s impossible to classify this week’s Arts Thursday!
This fortnight’s program, with Maisy Stapleton, ranges from exploring the latest contemporary Australian design, to understanding the exigencies of managing 19th century houses.
First up, we are joined by Raymond Scott from Wokshopped and an emerging designer Michelle Pitton, to look at the ideas and products which feature in Workshopped 15, the latest (and fifteenth) exhibition showcasing fresh Australian design talent.
With its theme of Design in Architecture, ideas in the exhibition range from mirrors that refract the light indoors, to a hybrid rocking chair cum hammock, that can be rolled up and stored when not in use.
If you’re looking at supporting young Australian design talent and perhaps acquiring some innovative pieces for your living space, then this exhibition is not to be missed!

If you’ve ever dreamed of living in historic splendour in one of Sydney’s fine old houses, such as those in the care of Sydney Living Museums, have you stopped to consider the housekeeping responsibilities?
From carpet beetles that need to be frozen out to the perils of the hot moist Australian climate, it’s quite a responsibility to look after collections and properties that are in state care and open regularly to public view.
Conservation specialist, Sarah Jane Rennie, Head of Collections at Sydney Living Museums has the overall responsibility for ensuring that organisation’s collections can survive into the future and thus illustrate how our old houses looked and functioned in their time. And while some of her work entails being what can only be called a super housekeeper, it also includes responsibility for some more astonishing items, such as intimate body parts and a renowned historical cello.
