Sydney Fringe Festival 2015
For the whole of this month, Sydney will turn into an extravaganza of arts and culture with its sixth annual Sydney Fringe Festival set to take over the city for the month of September.
For the past six years, Sydney has been exposed to a festival that opens up this city to independent arts and the creativity that comes with it. Spread all over the town, the underground arts community come alive with theatre performances, dance, physical theatre & circus, music, poetry & spoken word, visual art and comedy.
Through the month, Sydney Fringe will present over 300 productions in over 50 venues across town. The idea of the festival is to celebrate local artists and encourages the public to enjoy independent arts and strengthen the arts sector.
This year there is a bit of a difference from previous years’ festivals. Instead of hiding in the underground and bringing the people to the artists comfort zone, the organisers are exploding onto the streets, taking over shopfronts, pop-up spaces, street activations and some of Sydney’s best artist-run spaces and independent venues.
Shows will run both day and night, with the festival aiming to ‘activate the heart of our city’ with an explosion of ‘colour, culture and creativity’.
An event set to happen at Marrickville Town Hall
This year the festival has nominated five of Australia’s most inspiring artists to promote Sydney Fringe and show it off to its greatest potential. Paul Capsis, Kate Mulvany, Ursula Yovick, Wes Carr and Jon Bennett are the best and brightest in their arts fields of acting, singing, writing and comedy.
All were chosen for their independent connection to their roots and their dedication to the arts. Their championing of the festival is set to blow the lid off Sydney!
