Jazz Continuum announces new youth radio show

JAZZ CONTINUUM moves forward on a new wave of Random Sounds of Improbability as announced during National Youth Week.

Expressions of interest are being sought from young people between 16-25yrs  to be part of Eastside’s Jazz Continuum  – a youth program initiative that now moves into its second phase of a dedicated youth radio program on Saturday afternoons.

JAZZ CONTINUUM’S Saturday radio show will feature the sounds of the new with tips of experience weighing in from elders in the jazz scene.

Commencing in June, it will bring together people 16-25yrs interested in performing, broadcasting and producing, and let them loose on Saturday afternoons to delve, decipher and discuss random sounds of improbability with young musicians and bands, educators and professional musicians.  From the improvisations of jazz masters to the sounds of the electronic eclectic, JAZZ CONTINUUM will bring together sounds from the gene pool of musical freedom.

How can you get involved?

1)                 Budding Producers and Presenters should send an email to jazzcontinuum@hotmail.com with JAZZ CONTINUUM in the subject line.  Tell us in one paragraph about yourself and why you’d like to be involved.  Make sure you leave a contact telephone number and the name of your school or tertiary institution (if you attend one).  You’ll hear from us very soon.

2)                 School and youth ensembles are encouraged to send in samples of their sounds for their chance to have them heard by industry professionals, discerning ears, Eastside listeners, and to get feedback from mentors in a media environment.  Whether covers, improvisation or original material, send an mp3 to  jazzcontinuum@hotmail.com or sample CD to:

JAZZ CONTINUUM –  P.O. Box 525, BONDI JUNCTION NSW 1355

Include your name and contact details and the name of your school or tertiary institution if you attend one.

WE WANT YOU 16-25yr olds to produce, present and perform with your community radio station,  89.7FM Eastside Radio, so we’ll help you learn the skills to create and broadcast your own program and give you the opportunity to perform and be recorded as part of the Jazz Continuum initiative.   Anyone else interested in being part of this exciting project should email  jazzcontinuum@hotmail.com or call  Sue Thompson on (02) 9331 3000

Thankyou to all who performed, attended and contributed time,  support and assistance to the Jazz Continuum concert in Paddington Uniting Church on Saturday 27 March.

We gave over 50 high school students the opportunity to perform and be recorded live whilst promoting the station at Paddington Markets.

We’ll be posting up more news on the Youth Radio Program next week in time for NSW Youth Week. We’re interested in speaking with young people – musos, potential producers and broadcasters from age 16 -25 who we could recruit for a radio program that, in time, will be run by young people for young people with a splattering of experienced players and teachers adding to the blots and dots on their musical landscapes.

Contact the station on 9331 3000 for more information, or email eastside@eastsidefm.org

Well done, and thanks again for helping expand the awareness of our wonderful station!

Sue Thompson, on behalf of Eastside Radio Board of Directors
