Take One 11th September – Sarah McKenzie Interview

On this week’s episode I had the chance to chat with multitalented and rising Australian Jazz and Blues artist Sarah McKenzie. The ARIA Award winner continues to enjoy success on a global level, from having her track ‘That’s It, I Quit’ arranged for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, to supporting Jamie Cullum at the 2015 Jazzopen Stuttgart Festival to thousands. After being captivated and subsequently signed by Impulse! Label (John Coltrane, Gil Evans, Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, Coleman Hawkins) managing director Jean-Philippe Allard, McKenzie is now presenter her 2015 Australian Jazz Bell Award winning album to Europe later this month, with a string of shows at some of the most prestigious venues such as Ronnie Scott’s in London and at the Roma Jazz Festival. Below is the extended version of the interview aired on the 11th of September 2015. We got to chat about her compositional style, her love of jazz standards, the working behind ‘We Could Be Lovers’, learning how to perform and command a stage, band and audience, and her inspirations and future aspirations. To grab a copy of the album and to find out more information, head to her website https://www.sarahmckenzie.info/.
