Parlez Vous Francais?
Hi there Eastsiders!
My name is Thibault, I am a 19 year old french student, freshly arrived in Sydney, writing today a post for my first day as an intern at east side radio. We are many new faces here at the radio – Max already introduced himself – and I would like to introduce myself too, to the east side community in which I’m glad to join for a 6 months period.
I come from Brittany in the north west of France. In a small village called Larmor Baden, which is by the sea.
Brittany or “La Bretagne” is a region that abounds of music festivals and cultural events so that just two days before taking off to Australia, I have been to the Roi Arthur Festival. I’ve seen the famous rapper Akhenaton from the IAM collective and its “political/conscious rap” or even the famous Tiken Jah Fakoly who was singing “ouvrez les frontières” (which means “open the borders”), which had a huge echo, related to the recent events with migrants in Europe.

My third year at university occurs abroad and for that, I chose, Sydney and an internship at East side FM for many reasons. First, I’m a music lover and especially keen on blues, reggae, dub, world music, folk and jazz… I have been grown in a “bluesy atmosphere” my father playing every day the classic cross road blues songs at the guitar. But I listen many different styles since I am not picky on music styles and as long as there is not too much electronics. I immediately liked the spirit of east side radio as a perfect way to experience, learn and discover the cultural world in Sydney. However, the only aussie artist that I listen to at the moment is Xavier Rudd, and I’m sure that I will discover many new ones and interesting here at the radio and during my travels.
I am also interested in cinema, theatre, festivals of all kinds, where culture is boiling and where everybody has the access to it. We’re lucky that there are many in Sydney that’s why I would like to enjoy them and share them.
Then, I also took part in the journalism world working for a french newspaper, and here is another side and I’ll learn many things in 6 months about broadcasting and the general radio world.
