Community Billboard 5th to the 11th of October

An arts event that will use a tool that was used in classrooms of the past and for giving you entertainment in simplier times by drawing out a hopscotch jumping board, is the one day event "Chalk".

Chalk an on-going project, which was first installed in the main government square in Lima, Peru, as part of the 2002 Bienal Iberamericana. Since then, it has occurred in various locations around the world, however next week will be the first installation of "Chalk" in Australia.
The idea of this unique event is that there will be giant pieces of chalk – 64 inches (about 163cm) long and 8 inches (about 20cm) in diameter, will be placed in the forecourt of Sydney’s Queen Victoria Building, for passers-by to use as they wish.

You can try and draw a masterpiece or just leave you initials this is a day for you to leave your mark on the streets of Sydney with a giant sized chalk.

Chalk is presented by "Kaldor Public Art Projects" and the art gallery of NSW in conjunction with "Art & About" and seven artists from the "John Kaldor Family Collection".

If you are concerned about what way the world is heading in the future and wondering what steps can be taken to form a tomorrow that is good for everyone, then an event that you need to go to is the "Social Good Summit Australia".

The Social Good Summit Australia is a one-day conference examining the impact of social good initiatives around the world, it is all part of the global discussion of social change, expanding the conversations of the UN "General Full Assembly" and the introduction of the 17 new global goals.

It is the first time the event has being held in Sydney and it brings you the question of, what type of world do you want to live in by the year 2030?.
At the event there will be over 25 inspirational speakers including professors, TV presenters, and Humanitarian aid professionals and many more speakers from different work backgrounds, who will discuss solutions for the greatest challenges of our time.

If you are a fan of comic books or even if you just love how a story can be told by graphics, if you are interested in how the world of animation and storytelling is put together then head along to this years "Graphic Festival" as its returns to Sydney for the fifth time.

At Graphic festival it is your opportunity to attend free talks, free movie screenings and ticketed events featuring the most exciting storytellers from the worlds of print, pixels and pop culture. It is a festival of graphic storytelling, animation & music. Almost all of the work that is presented is prepared specifically for the "Graphic Festival", it is either a debut, a premiere, or even a one-off which may never happen again.

Some of the highlights of the weekend long event will be the writer-director George Miller, cowriter-illustrator Brendan McCarthy and co-writer-dramaturge Nico Lathouris of "Mad Max: Fury Road – Creating the Apocalypse" will be in conversation about the behind the scenes work in that hugely popular film that came out earlier this year, also there will be Iceland’s BAFTA award-winning pianist-composer Ólafur Arnalds as he will lead a 13-piece chamber orchestra.

So there will be lots of fun attractions throughout the festival not just comic books but if comic books are your passion than this will definitely be an interesting event.

As part of the "Good Food Month" program there is going to be lots of foodie events happening around the city, big or small, flavour bursting or traditional there will be food events filling people up and bringing your tastebuds on a journey.
An event that is happening in an area that is known for its popular food joints and unique cafes will be the "Newtown Good Food Fair".

Last year this festival attracted over 3,000 visitors and following the success of last year's event the "Newtown Precinct Business Association" have decided to expand the areas where the festival is held, they are after doubling the size and capacity of the event so more local businesses can show off what they produce, this year there will be an additional 12 stalls and a licensed area for beverage tastings.

You can be sure that you will have a wide diverse range of food from pig on a spit to boutique cake stalls the streets of Newtown will be alive more than ever during this highly anticipated event.

If you are interested in the history of indigenous spices and have a sweet tooth then there will be a very unique event happening to bring you both chocolate and a history lesson at the "Indigenous Spice & Chocolate Pairing" event.

This very special informative event will inform you about indigenous spices and flavours such as lemon myrtle, wattle seed, peppermint gum, Murray River gourmet salt and macadamia which can used to create magical pairings with single origin chocolate.

If you want to find out what makes an artisan chocolate, the history of chocolate, and to learn all about Australian native spices with a chocolate and spice matching through a tasting session then this is the event where you will hear it all.

Teaching you all you need to know about indigenous spice & chocolate pairing will be the creators of "Simko Solutions", a family owned and run chocolate manufacturing workshop who's products have won 12 awards across Australia, you can be sure that the chocolate you will be tasting on the day will be tastebud heaven.

This weeks music event on community billboard is one that will give you a sneak peak of what the jazz musicians of tomorrow are going to be like, while at the same giving you the chance to see some well known artists, as a night of the "Converge Festival" will be taking place in one of our proud sponsors venue.

Converge gives student groups from the Sydney conservatorium jazz program the chance to collaborate and perform with a jazz artist of their choice, made possible by Sydney University’s larger "Verge Festival".

Next Tuesday wont be any weeknight of live music as this is an event full of several different musicians bringing several different styles, with projects ranging from chamber jazz to afro-Cuban, to free to modern jazz originals, with guest artists from both Sydney and Melbourne including Chris Hale, James Mclean as well as Sydney’s own Toby Hall.

It is a wonderful idea to give the students a chance to play alongside some experienced artists within the industry, it is also great for the audience to get such a jam packed night. Expect sounds from Latin based music, as well as elements of contemporary, avant-garde and art music within the context of a chord less ensemble setting plus lots more.

Here at Eastside Radio we are all about community spirit and even more so Eastside community, an event taking place to celebrate the community right here in Paddington will be the seventh edition of the "William Street Festival".

The events main focus is to celebrate the culture of the much loved William street and showcasing the diverse and brilliant shops the community has to offer. This iconic Paddington shopping street is the home of unique fashion designer flagship stores, jewellery boutiques, pubs, cafes, hair and beauty salons with over 32 street retailers and 17 external vendors you will be kept busy browsing through what's on offer.

When you want to take a break from the bustling excitement of the stalls there will be non-stop live entertainment throughout the day. For the first time since the festival has begun it will run into the night. Not only can you enjoy light projections on some iconic buildings, but the outdoor lounge area will turn into an open air cinema at dark.
There is anything from fashion, food, music and a cinema plus private dining walks during the evening so there will be something for everyone.

If you want to convert your food waste and organic waste into useful natural fertiliser for your garden and learn how to set up and maintain a worm farm and compost, then pop along to this event to make your garden look even brighter without having to buy chemical plant feed products.

Best of all, you have less waste which means less waste going into landfill, its all going to be recycled and re-used and you have no excuses not to take the information you learn on the day and turn it into a reality as there will be a free worm farm or compost bin once you have completed the workshop.
