World class pianist Chris Cody is going to release his new album ‘Not My Lover’ by Wave Music on the 1st of December 2015. There will be a launch concert in Sydney on the 12th of December 2015.

The album is a potent blend of music styles celebrating Cody’s love of jazz and classical traditions. It is influenced  by French, African and Arab music from the years Chris has been based in France performing throughout the USA, Europe, and Africa. Recorded at Linear Studios in Sydney, the album features some of Australia’s finest jazz musicians – Karl Lskowski, Brendan Clarke, and James Waples.

Underpinned by contemporary urban grooves, the originality, warmth, lyricism and humour of Cody’s music have seduced a wide and diverse public around the world receiving rave reviews from the critics.

The French Jazz Magazine described the music on ‘Not my Lover’ as “A marvellous climate, between subtle arrangements and vast spaces of improvisation…”. “This is jazz that takes off for the heights”, praised Le Figaro. And John Shand from the Sydney Morning Herald sees in it “The sound of midnight in Paris”.

Indeed, for  Chris Cody, ‘Not my Lover’ “is a tribute to Paris and its people, the town I (Cody) love, with much of the music inspired by the sounds, sights, smells and feelings I have there. It was never an easy love affair but an enduring one.”

“I moved to Paris in my early 20s, living in the heart of town for many years. I fell in love with its funky cafés, bars, and history soaked streets, its nonchalant people with all their attitude and healthy disdain for outsiders, their sense of humour and constant willingness to discuss and have an opinion on anything and everything. I met and played with all sorts of people from many diverse backgrounds – European, African, Arab, Asian or American – all with their own unique experience and story to share and all united by their love of France.”, he says.
