Latin American Ethnic-Folk Festival

The Most Exquisite Latin American Ethnic-Folk Festival takes over Australia!

Sydney, Melbourne & Perth host a one-night only celebration of music, dance, colours and ideas not to be missed!

The festival features world-renowned folklorist Jaime Torres & his Quintet and kicks off in Sydney on Saturday 28 November, 6.30pm at the Seymour Centre, followed by Melbourne on Friday 4 December, 7pm at Deakin Edge, Federation Square, culminating in Perth on Saturday 12 December, 6.30pm at Fremantle Town Hall.

Jaime Torres is a living cultural icon of Latin folk music. He has taken his Charango (a signature South American Ukulele) to every corner of the planet with sold-out theatres throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia. He will be meeting Archie Roach in concert in Castlemaine on December 3.

Jaime’s repertoire will indulge audiences with passages from the internationally acclaimed Misa Criolla (Creole Mass) and Folk favourites El Humahuaqueño Carnival, El Cóndor Pasa (Flight of the Condor) and Palomitay. His Quintet brings together exceptional musicians featuring Jaime’s daughter Manuela Torres on percussion and dance, his son Juan Cruz Torres on Charango and Sikus (panpipes) as well as Federico Siciliano on Accordion and Guitarron (large bass guitar) and Goyo Alvarez Morales on Guitar in what promises to be a spellbinding performance.

The festival will also highlight local Australian-Latino musicians, including Grupo Pukara, one of the most dynamic and influential exponents of Latin American and Andean music in Australia, Jose Nieto, a singer-songwriter and guitarist born in Colombia’s musical epicentre pursuing the clearest expression of his Latin American folkloric heritage plus more guest artists to be announced!

The night will wrap up with an intimate Q&A with Jaime about his project Tantanakuy (Quechua for ‘gathering’), which celebrates 40 years of providing his people in the Andean Mountain Range a platform to connect to their traditional roots through the arts, just as the iconic Seymour Centre celebrates 40 years of being Sydney’s cultural hub. Latin themed food, Quilmes beer and wine will be on offer to toast off the night!
