About Steph

My name is Steph and I am a music addict doing work experience at East Side Radio Station. Ever since I was young, music acted as my oxygen so I picked up dancing, singing, the piano, and joined different choirs. I am part of a family of 6 and they all have very different tastes in music. This means that I have grown up being exposed to various genres, and I have learnt to love and embrace them all. The first concert I went to was a combined Icehouse and Hall and Oates concert, when I was 10 years old. I remember the rhythm of the drums becoming one with my heartbeat…each note plucked on the electric guitar resonating throughout the stadium, everyone’s lips in sync with the words, the audience stuck in the moment together, uniting in their mutual taste of music. I know it sounds cheesy and I am generally not a corny person, but I fell in love with that concert atmosphere. Since then, I have been incredibly fortunate to attend other concerts including Fleetwood Mac, The Preatures, Sufjan Stevens, San Cisco and Lionel Richie.

When I am older, I would like to be a television/film director however the music industry intrigues me as well. My dream is that I will have the opportunity to create one-of-a-kind movies and I know music plays a major role. Music is essential in evoking emotions and can make or break a film. I try to listen to as much music as possible of different genres, to provide me with the experience and insight necessary for the movies I hope to one day create. One of my favourite movies is The Secret Life of Walter Mitty due to the music being deliberately chosen, to perfectly compliment the beautiful cinematography.
Although I am in Year 10, my dreams and goals are quite clear. However, I know for sure that it is imperative for me to gain work experience, to help solidify what I hope to achieve in life. East Side provides a forum for new, varied sounds and art forms. I really love art and music, as they are great ways of expression, and these aspects are explored and celebrated at the radio station. I am looking forward to the experience and learning the different facets of radio.
Here is one of my favourite Fleetwood Mac songs, Songbird, being covered by Eva Cassidy. Before coming to East Side Radio, I did not know of Eva Cassidy but now I have been introduced to her.
