If you would like to see what new talent is up and coming on the stage, Emerge New Short Works Festival is running this week up until Saturday, and will show you a range of new theatre works.

There will be an exciting season of six daringly different new short theatre works created, developed, designed, produced and performed by the Graduating Company, under the artistic direction of Sally Blackwood & Peta Downes.

The six theatre performances will be - Eviction, Then and Now, Quiet Carriage, The Repositorium, The Westermarck Effect and Voices. Ranging from topics such as reflecting on the Vietnam war to the idea of Adult babies. A chance to see a variety of different works and to see what Australia's emerging theatre artists are coming up with.

Here at Eastside Radio we are all about promoting the use of bicycles because what's better than no traffic jams, no parking fee and a healthy commute to work.

If you are thinking of starting to learn the streets of Sydney by bike then an event that is perfect for those who are just getting their bearings is the Redfern to Glebe Discovery Ride.

On the tour you will take in spectacular Sydney sights and great local attractions, starting and finishing at Carriageworks, this ride will explore back streets through Chippendale, Broadway and into Glebe before heading back along the Johnstons Creek path.

You may think you know some of these areas but being out on a bike, being lead by experienced guides from BIKESydney up and down the back streets, is when you will see/learn much more. The fun 10 kilometre rides last about an hour.

Have you been thinking of unleashing your artistic side? Maybe you want to be shown the basics of painting but don't know where to start, if so an event that creates a painting studio in a fun environment is Social Painting at Your Local.

Life With Painting is hosting a social paint night at your local pub. Upon arrival, you will be provided with all the required materials to get creative, including paint brushes, canvas, paints, easel and an apron. During the two hour class, a host artist will guide you in painting your interpretation of the nights featured painting.

A chance to explore and enhance your creative side in a supportive atmosphere while having a fun night out eating, drinking and listening to music while you paint yourself a masterpiece that you can take home or give to a loved one this Christmas.

If you are a fan of the saxophone then a gig that will be sax mania is on next week. The music event of the week for Community Billboard is Phillip Johnston 7tet, full of big lungs and sweet brass.

Phillip Johnston is an American jazz musician and composer who divides his time between Sydney and New York. As a composer, he has written theatre music for the Bell Shakespeare Company and film music for Paul Mazursky, Henry Bean and Philip Haas.

Earlier this year he did a one-week residency at The Stone in New York, in which he presented 12 different ensembles over six days. He will recreate some of this music with a group of Australian jazz musicians in one of our proud sponsors venue.

Phillip Johnston will be joined on the night by Peter Farrar on alto saxophone, Jeremy Rose on tenor saxophone, James Loughnan on baritone saxophone, Alister Spence on piano and Lloyd Swanton on bass. An evening of original swinging jazz, blues and Latin music that infuses big-band-era dance music with charming modernist sensibilities.

Sydney is a wonderful host to light and imagery events with The Vivid Festival and The Beams Festival. With this year being United Nations’ International Year of Light, all the events are that extra bit special.

One of Sydney's iconic buildings will be a backdrop to capture the imagination of audiences with a spectacular light and sound show. As the Christmas season is approaching St Mary’s Cathedral will again be the centrepiece of Sydney’s public Christmas celebrations, with Lights of Christmas presented by PAYCE.

The massive 75m façade of the Cathedral will be illuminated with a free display of sound and light, storytelling the themes of Christmas using Vivid-style 3D projections.

Maybe you celebrate Christmas or maybe you don't either way it will be a lovely attraction while taking a stroll around town. The light show comes on just after dusk and stays on until midnight, joined with a choir performance.

With the season of giving and receiving gifts just around the corner there are several different markets and craft fairs happening at the moment. A market that we highlighted earlier in the year on Community Billboard is on again next weekend, as the Finders Keepers Markets return.

The Finders Keepers is a design market, that features the work of independent makers from across Australia. With events held nationally, the market promotes and supports over 1000 sellers each year.
It appears like more of a festival than a market, the events combine design, art, good food, live music and a fun community spirit all under the one roof.

There will be a variety of different products on sale, one of the great aspects of a market is that you can speak with the crafter themselves so you know exactly what you are buying. If you are mindful of conscious consumerism and are seeking to actively support small, local businesses then this is the Christmas market for you.

There will also be lots of workshops running throughout the event such as, making your own wrapping paper, creating a leather purse and much more.

If you are looking for an art exhibition to check out then for over two months you can view the works by several artists, who have worked with the exhibition's theme - The City of Sydney.

Destination Sydney brings together three Sydney public galleries - Manly Art Gallery, Mosman Art Gallery and S.H Ervin Gallery, in an innovative collaboration to present an exhibition about Sydney which has long been a point of focus and convergence for many artists.

Each of the artists selected for this exhibition has been influenced by their experiences of living and working in Sydney that the city and its harbour have become central themes within their artistic production.
The artists featured at S.H Ervin Gallery are Cressida Campbell, Grace Cossington Smith and Margaret Preston.
Manly Art Gallery & Museum will present the work of Elisabeth Cummings, Lloyd Rees & Brett Whiteley and Mosman Art Gallery will present Kevin Connor, Peter Kingston & John Olsen.

The exhibitions will include an active program of activities including poetry readings, lectures and artist talks.

When: Friday 11th December to Sunday 21st February.

If you love your Eastern Suburb beaches and are feeling like doing a good deed then next weekend grab the whole family and pop along to Keeping Bondi Beautiful.

The event is run in partnership between Waverley Council and Responsible Runners who are a group of local volunteers who do a weekly clean up at your local beaches. Responsible Runners integrate running and walking with weekly clean-ups to reduce marine debris, build stronger communities, and raise awareness about the health and environmental dangers of single-use disposable waste.

For your generous time and energy there will be edible delights and soft drinks provided, plus an opportunity to meet like-minded people. To keep Australia's most popular beach as lovely as it is can only take a little of your kind hearted help.
