National Art Archive and Australian Poetry- Arts Monday
Archivist, Steven Miller and Author and Poet, Libby Hathorn are my guests today. Steven Miller, the Art Gallery of NSW’s archivist, is leading an historic archiving project – delving into the recently gifted material from the Biennale of Sydney’s archive.
The gifting of the Biennale of Sydney Archive will bring a strong international contemporary art focus to the National Art Archive, which currently holds the personal papers of over 220 artists, the business records of over 50 commercial galleries and a large collection of artist painting materials and related artefacts.

This week we present Episode Six in our series on Australian Poets – Old & New with my guest, author and poet Libby Hathorn. Our sixth episode features Mary Gilmore (1865-1962) a socialist poet, and journalist.
Although during her life Mary Gilmore was regarded as a Utopian and a Communist sympathiser, she accepted appointment as a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1937, becoming Dame Mary Gilmore – the first person to be granted this award for services to literature. Upon her death, aged 97, Dame Mary Gilmore was honoured with the first state funeral accorded to a writer since the death of Henry Lawson in 1922.
I look forward to your company 10.30am – 12.00pm
