Who can fail to enjoy pedal steel guitar, a tight band and songs about long legged cowboys sung by a honky-tonk queen from WA via the southwest USA?

Gypsy woman, Ruby Boots aka Bex Chillcott delivered a raw mix of Alt/Country and Rock at the Newtown Social Club last Friday night. Performing some new material as well as songs from her debut album, Solitude (Lost Highway), Ruby has talent and attitude. A particular show highlight was ‘Middle of Nowhere’ from the album. Vicki Thorn  from The Waifs provides the backing vocals for the song on the album. There is a hint of The Waifs about Ruby, probably because of her close links with the band.

Some in the appreciative audience showed their steps moving dangerously close to line dancing.

Ruby is sassy and raw, an unburnished diamond who is going places. Most likely Nashville.
