This week on Arts Thursday join me,  Maisy Stapleton,  with a focus on visual arts exhibitions in Sydney.

Firstly, join Maisy in conversation with Gene Sherman from the Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation (SCAF), which is launching its 2016 exhibition program with an ambitious moving image project by Mikhael Subotzky, entitled WYE, standing for the letter “Y”.

Gene speaks about her background and why it has taken many years to examine her South African past through a contemporary cultural lens.

I also talk with South African artist and Magnum photographer, Mikhael Subotzky, about his extraordinary work, what motivated its development and the diversity of meanings WYE presents.

Then we go to the National Art School where I speak with Mikala Dwyer and young artist Nicola Smith at the Redlands Konica Minolta Art Prize.

Last year Mikala won the Redlands Konica Minolta Art Prize and this year she was its Curator, choosing the senior artists who in their turn selected an emerging artist to exhibit work for the prize.

Finally, on the visual arts theme, Michelle McDonald, a guide at the MCA speaks about her experiences as a guide and some of the stories she tells about the artists she presents through her entertaining and elucidating tours.

Join me on Arts Thursday 31 March for an entertaining and informative perspective on some current arts’ stories in Sydney.
