Free Arts Law Workshops from the City of Sydney

The City of Sydney has been working with Arts Law to present a series of workshops around different legal issues that can be faced by artists and creative enterprises. We ran them last October at 107 Projects and the individuals and orgs who attended found them really useful.

They are free to attend and we think that you could find them valuable to your practice or may know others who you think they may be valuable to.

Each workshop is 1.5 hours and will focus on different legal issues faced by artists and creatives.  You can attend one or more of the workshops but you will need to register for each individually.

They will be held at 107 Projects, Redfern on Friday 17 June 2016.

9:00am – 10:30am, Copyright 101 for artists

Creating art often means creating copyright. Let us walk you through owning and using your copyright, as well as creating copyright with other people. This session uses practical examples, case studies from artists’ experiences and hypothetical scenarios to help make copyright accessible and, dare we say, fun for creatives.

11:00am – 12:30pm, Dotting the i’s: understanding arts contracts

https://arts-law-workshop-contracts.eventbrite.com.au

Artists sometimes enter into contracts without being completely sure what it all means for them. This session will take you through what a contract is, and some of the key issues artists often deal with when negotiating arts contracts.

1:30pm – 3:00pm, Arty business

https://arts-law-workshop-arty-business.eventbrite.com.au

Being an artist often means being a business. In this session, we look at business names and structuring and identify some of the legal issues that come up when you are working with other creators.

Arts Law will also offer a 1:1 advice clinic on Thursday 7 July at 107 Projects, Redfern. This would be of use if you have a particular legal matter that may not be covered in one of the three workshops. To book an advice consultation contact artslaw@artslaw.com.au with the subject “Arts Law advice clinic”.  Advice consultations are for 45 minutes. Spaces are limited.
