Stu Hunter’s The Migration

After the successful world premiere at the Sydney Festival in January this year, Stu Hunter’s the migration returns to the Seymour Centre’s York Theatre for one show only on Thursday 9 June.

The Sydney Morning Herald declared the migration as “transcendent brilliance” and his line-up as featuring “one of the great horn sections in Australian music history”. Don’t miss your opportunity to hear Stu Hunter’s trail- blazing work brought to life by his masterful ten-piece band.

This performance is part of a four date national tour which also includes performances at the Perth International Jazz Festival and the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, where The Age has named the migration as one of their “top five” picks of the festival.

Commission in part by the Sydney Improvised Music Association with the support of the Australia Council for the Arts, the migration is the third in a series of critically acclaimed suites by composer/pianist Hunter. Read more at stuthehunter.com

Beginning with the muse (2007) and followed by the gathering (2010) – the migration lifts the roof off in its scope and intensity. Driving grooves and lush sonic landscapes form powerful scaffolds on which to drape rich harmonic complexity and deep emotive melodies.
