Buried deep under the border between Switzerland and France, CERN’s Large Hadron Collider is the work of 10,000 men and women from across the globe, united in their quest to uncover the fundamental building blocks of our universe.
This immersive exhibition now at the Powerhouse Museum, from the Science Museum, London, blends theatre, video and sound art with real artefacts from CERN, recreating a visit to the famous particle physics laboratory. Go behind the scenes to witness the uncovering of the Higgs boson, explore the 27-km collider and its cathedral-sized detector caverns, and discover how studying the subatomic world can point the way to a fuller understanding of our universe. Hear how Australian researchers and students are involved in this experiment that is at the frontier of scientific innovation.

The Lost Lost Cabaret (Alternative Comedy Showcase)

Impermanence Exhibition
Presenting work in a range of mediums including painting, sculpture and installation the artists in this exhibition explore notions of impermanence and change in relation to psychological and physical landscapes.
Brooke Sanderson explores reconstructive memory through natural and synthetic forms.
Hannah Toohey engages with repetitive process, applying the conventions of printmaking in a non-traditional manner. Bringing together disparaging elements, both natural and man-made, Hannah Rose Carroll Harris’ works are a record of her encounters with the environment.
The exhibition will show impermanence through a range of mediums, in which the artists explore natural processes of change.

Sydney Latin American Film Festival
Say hola to the 11th annual Sydney Latin American Film Festival (SLAFF) in September.
Returning to Dendy Opera Quays, the festival will screen the very best in award-winning Latin American cinema: eight feature films and three documentaries, teamed with colourful Latin opening and closing night parties, over five jam-packed days.

R U OK?Day is an annual day in September (the second Thursday) dedicated to remind people to ask family, friends and colleagues the question, "R U OK?", in a meaningful way, because connecting regularly and meaningfully is one thing everyone can do to make a difference to anyone who might be struggling.
It is important to not just ask someone if they are feeling ok on just one day a year, but the day aims to raise awareness for people suffering in particular, to silent illnesses, such as depression and anxiety. It aims to raise awareness of these issues, and promotes how just asking someone how they're going is one way for people to find access to the help they need.
The Harry Jensen Community Center is holding its annual Are you OK? Day celebration!
Join them for a delicious afternoon tea and magic show, preferably with a friend who needs a little more sunshine in their day.

Brett Whiteley: tributes
The influences on Brett Whiteley’s art and life were many and varied, from writers, poets and musicians to photographers and painters.
In mono-prints, drawings and paintings, Whiteley paid tribute to Francis Bacon, Henri Matisse, Vincent van Gogh, Bob Dylan and Arthur Rimbaud as subject and inspiration.
This exhibition celebrates the art of Whiteley through three key themes: visual art, literature and music.

We invite you this Saturday to transform the gallery space into a relaxed grazing ground, in appreciation and discussion of our current exhibition Corroberry by Adelaide based artist Driller Jet Armstrong.
About the show:
“When we are presented with a European style painting of the Australian landscape we are presented with a lie that unwittingly serves to perpetuate the myth of Terra Nullius.
My work is about re-presenting, re-purposing, re-cycling, re-inventing and re-using original landscape paintingsas the site for discussions mainly around Ab-originality and Australian-ness. I steal and I appropriate but through this process a Hybrid is formed. An entirely new work emerges ascribed with fresh meaning and relevancy. I call this work Daubism and this has been my approach to practice since 1989. I’ve been vilified and vindicated for it but throughout I’ve remained its true believer and main protagonist.
Hipster culture has been described as the “embodiment of postmodernism as a spent force, revealing what happens when pastiche and irony exhaust themselves as aesthetics”. – Rob Horning (2009 – PopMatters)
For a subculture known for re-purposing the life out of everything and anything, Daubist art is the epitome of Hipster aesthetics and the proof that pastiche and irony are an inexhaustible resource. The thing I haven’t mentioned yet is that I’ve been working as a professional club deejay since 1985 and of course deejay culture influences me enormously in my everyday life. It should come as no surprise therefore that sampling and cutting and pasting has crossed over into my art and like modern music something new is created from something old. Ironically there’s nothing at all pastiche about that and the same can be said for Daubism.”
