Arts Thursday- 29 September- Taking It To The Streets
Presented by Bronwyn Rennex
This Thursday I speak to Tamara Voninski, a second year PhD student currently studying at Sydney College of the Arts – University of Sydney. We discuss University of Sydney’s plans to close the Rozelle campus of Sydney College of the Arts, the failed merger proposal with University of NSW School of Art and Design, the plans to move Sydney College of the Arts to the main campus of University of Sydney and the campaign by students, staff and supporters to save Sydney College of the Arts.

My second guest of the day is photographer Jon Lewis who was recently announced winner of the Australian Life Photography Competition run as part of Art & About.
With a unique focus on who we are as a nation, the 22 finalists in this year’s Australian Life look beyond the iconic images of our country to reveal new insights into our identity.
From a close-up moment of reflection, to a wide-angle on our collective hopes and dreams, these stunning large format prints are as diverse, interesting and surprising as Australia itself.
Each of the finalists and the 2016 Judges’ pick for the $10,000 prize were chosen by a panel of photographers, artists and curators, from work submitted by emerging and professional photographers across the country.

We discuss Jon’s winning work (above) plus talk about his long distinguished career as a photographer.
And finally Jon and I talk briefly about the wonderful work of photographer Diane Arbus whose work is currently on exhibition at the National Gallery of Australia. The NGA has one of the most significant collections of Arbus’ work in the world.
