Liveworks Festival Of Experimental Art
Experience the the newest and most interesting developments in experimental art from across Australia and the Asia Pacific region at Carriageworks. Taking place from 27 October to 6 November, Liveworks will bring you a wide range of interesting art including giant kinetic installations, sonic sculptures, participatory performances, sexy encounters, experimental choreography, captivating Indigenous stories and much more.
Dream Lover: The Bobby Darin Story
The musical Dream Lover tells the exceptional story of the legendary singer, songwriter and actor Bobby Darin. Directed by Simon Phillips, the show presents great hits from the 50s and 60s including Mack The Knife, Beyond the Sea and the multi-million-seller Dream Lover. This musical captures the glamour and passion of the big band era, the Rat Pack in Vegas and the Golden Age of Hollywood – a time of trail-blazing stars, knock-out fashions and life-changing events. Not only is the show starring a sensational cast including David Campbell and Hannah Fredericksen, but it also includes an 18-piece big band.
Scratching the Surface exhibition
Both a literal interpretation and a metaphor, Scratching the Surface is an exhibition of works by Indigenous Australian artists who work with and about the Surface. Exploring traditional and innovative mark making techniques, the use of effects of surface, the surface as a subject as well as a conceptual tool, it aims at challenging preconceptions, while rediscovering traditional practices and celebrating innovations making their mark.
Sweet addiction: The Botanic Story of Chocolate
The Calyx is a new world-class horticultural attraction within Sydney’s Royal Botanic Garden. Let yourself be guided through the history of our sweetest sin and explore the origins of a drug that seems to be indispensable for most of us: chocolate. The journey leads it's visitors through tropical rainforests, plantations, ancient history, and a Lindt-sponsored mill, culminating in the delightful chocolatier room. There will be various chocolate-themed activities and events throughout the exhibition period, including a kid's event on Saturdays called Chocolate Garden where the children can discover rainforest plants from the Amazon basin, and make their own delicious chocolate treat.
Latin and Jazz Jam - Open Mic
Sail the silky seas of jazz and fuel the flames of Latin fever every Monday night with the soulful kats and kittens at Latin and jazz open mic night at The World Bar. Take over the stage or simply have a seat, lean back and enjoy the great atmosphere. The entry is free and everyone can join in. Plus: cocktails and canapés are served until late!
