ASIAN INTERSECTIONS – BEYOND WORDS

Beyond Words – Calligraphic Traditions of Asia is a long-running exhibition at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

Join Matt Cox, Curator of Asian Art, in conversation about this spiritual and artistic form of communication used across the Asian world, from parchment to fabric and ceramics and speaking of the cultural symbolism, beliefs and practices of each community.

The exhibition contains some wonderful examples of the art, from a 9th century Qur’an on loan from the Malaysian Islamic Arts Museum to Lindy Lee’s hot metal Cosmos and a digital work for kids by the Iranian artist Parastou Forouhar.

This interview is part of an irregular series Asian Intersections – exploring our connections to Asia through arts and cultural expression.
