Album of the Week – ‘Lovelight’ by The Lachy Doley Group

lachydoley2

‘Lovelight’ by The Lachy Doley Group is Eastside Radio’s Album of the Week.

The Jimi Hendrix of the Hammond Organ brings yet another powerful bluesy performance following  sold out shows throughout 2016 including performances across Australia and Europe. Captured over two weeks, Lovelight packs a punch full of passion, excitement and talent seamlessly across nine tracks.  On the first listen, you’ll have each tracks signature catchy riffs and rhythms embedded into your psyche, but we’re sure it’s an album you won’t want to put down.

Aware of what their audience has come to know and love about the band, the album intro’s with the anthemic ‘We’re Free’. The track, along with its counterpart ‘Lovelight’, see’s the group in full blues gear, packing each and every pulse full of energy. Shifting gears comes ‘Love Came Around’ and ‘Ain’t No Love in the Heart of the City’, both beautifully melancholy ballards that wrangle Doley’s raspy vocals to explore his lower range.

The album also includes some special guest performances from the likes of Jimmy Barnes, Nathan Cavaleri and Zkye Blue, each expanding the soundscape. What the album truly is is a dedication to a lifelong love affair with the genre. As the front man describes it; “I listen to the blues to feel understood, inspired and to let the good times roll… Blues music was born from the African American slaves singing as a group to relive the hell that they were living in. Blues was, and still is, a great escape.” For those looking to really get a behind the scenes look at just what is going on behind Doley’s signature ’57 Hammond C3 and 70’s Whammy Clavinet, we suggest checking out the band’s FACEBOOK page for footage of the spectacle.
