This week sees the start of refugee week here in NSW. Refugee Week’s state-wide celebrations kick off at Paddington Town Hall on Friday 16 June, with an event featuring inspirational stories from refugees, live music and performance, and the presentation of the NSW Humanitarian Awards and a book reading of ‘I’m Australian Too’ by Mem Fox and morning tea.

The best photojournalism from around the world comes to the State Library
One of Sydney’s most popular annual exhibitions, World Press Photo brings together the most astonishing, thought-provoking and often beautiful images published by photojournalists in the past year.
The images range from sports and nature photography to snapshots from the frontlines of war; from staged portraits to remarkable candid shots.
This exhibition features more than 150 winning images from the 60th World Press Photo – selected from 80,408 images submitted by 5034 photographers from 126 countries. Runs untill June 25th.

For those with unfulfilled thoughts of thespianism or those looking to sharpen their craft. Founding member of the Shakespeare Company Suzi Dougherty, holds a free weekly acting class.
Explore scenes from Shakespeare, Chekhov or Pinter, classic and contemporary writers. The course is designed to give you confidence and a great vocal and physical presence – for those just starting out, or actors needing a regular workout, or anyone just wanting to enjoy themselves.

Glebe Artisans Market is all about handmade and locally made products, sold by the artist or designer who created them. The quarterly market takes place at Foley Park and there’s usually around 50 stallholders selling jewellery, plants, furniture, fashion and children’s toys. Stallholders are likely to change each season, but previous markets have championed the wares of Parva Skincare, Mona-Lisa Ceramics, and hand printed cushions from Bob Window.

Inspired by the theme ‘Cooking with Fire’, Carriageworks’ winter Night Market is a celebration of the diverse cultural relationship between food and the elemental force of fire.
Carriageworks is joined by guest curator, Lennox Hastie – chef and owner of Sydney’s Firedoor, Australia’s only fully wood-fuelled restaurant. Hastie has helped select the state’s leading restaurants and providores to cook with fire in all its forms – from Argentinian grill, to Sri Lankan smoked curries, Italian wood fired pizzas and wok fried Thai – whether flames, coals, smoke, or char.
