Art, science and a touch of the theatrical are combined in Tor Larsen’s Virtual Relics. Imagining the future with only the past as our guide has always made humanity feel uncomfortable and threatened, as we wait impatiently for the scientists to invent a time machine. Artist Tor Larsen’s box sculptures contain objects and images which although familiar are unsettling and yet somehow safely contained, like a Victorian curio inside their boxes.

In creating these Virtual Relics, Tor Larsen has combined the idea of ancient and revered religious objects, carefully preserved in sealed containers for the edification of the faithful with more contemporary items and concepts. These are less likely to inspire spiritual awe yet inviting contemplation and disturbing conclusions.

A recent return to academia has added additional philosophical, political, social and economic layers to his work. This return encouraged him to explore historical moments and contemporary topical issues through a range of satirical, humorous and occasionally dystopian metaphors, symbolism and more direct references.

This is a slow to medium-paced class. Still the mind and move the body, build strength, balance, flexibility, stretch and dance. Have fun to beautiful music with simple facilitated movements. No experience required. All ages and both men and women welcome. Take part at your own pace.

Music is a mix of contemporary, classical, jazz , folk, blues, electronic and world.

Rose, June and Louise are eking out a hard living in the dying days of vaudeville. Constantly on the road, always on the lookout for a way to fund their next meal – honestly or dishonestly – there’s nothing glamorous about their show-business life. Rose will fight for her daughters’ success, no matter what the cost, and both girls play along for as long as they can – until first one, then the other, reach breaking point and begin to question Rose’s real motives for their life on the stage.

Informed by the Japanese practice of “shinrin yoku” or “forest bathing”, this type of mindful walking is calming and soothing to the nervous system and can help boost your immune system.

Over the 4 weeks of this program we’ll explore different pathways that help us reconnect to nature and ourselves. So break and get back to the great outdoors.
