Something Else – Loved Up with Word + Sound

Hey Eastside Lovers, we have a great show coming up on this Friday 25th June at 11.30am featuring the fabulous Jess Cook, spoken word poet and director of Tokenimagination where all good things wordy, soundy and visual happen.

We also have Jordan Dorjee, turntablist and student at UTS. Jordan studied the turntable and early stages of sampling for his music HSC, where he performed appropriations of Chameleon by Herbie Hancock and own compositions for his practical exams. He musically focuses on deconstructivism, collage and sampling where he draws influence from Musique Concrete, 20th century composers and battle djs. He is currently studying a BA Sound and Music Design at UTS.

Jordan will be performing at Refraction, an event featuring sound artists from all over Australia. It is on Tuesday 29th June from 7.30pm at Serial Space at 33 Wellington St Chippendale.

Wollongong performance art collective Apple Spiel will also be telling some stories live.

Applespiel

Applespiel are a collective of young artists that formed out of the university of Wollongong. Formed out of an interest in a dodgy (yet hilarious) aesthetic ideals and the intellectual rigour of prog rock concept albums, they have pushed these ideals through installation, curatorial and performance works.

They have participated in Pact theatre’s tiny stadiums festival, time passes, a night of installlation, performance and sound at Anitas Theatre in Thirroul, And will be participating in this years underbelly public arts festival.

For this show, instead of the usual question and answer format, we will be treating you to some tasty aural treats with performances from our guests. Community Radio is a crucial platform where artists and musicians who may not get much mainstream exposure are able to disseminate their work and let people know what is happening in the world of art. The gap between listeners from all different backgrounds and artists of all different philosophies dissolves in community radio and really, none are more dedicated than Eastside who has consistently done this for 28 years.

On a more personal note, Eastside has given Katherine and I the opportunity to meet so many great artists, musicians, poets, sound artists and theorists, which we then hopefully turn into a new interest for the listeners. We love talking to and meeting interesting people and we love giving them more much needed exposure. That is the meaning of the Love-athon for me anyway. So please subscribe if you love what Eastside does and would love Eastside to continue being committed to the arts. Community radio truly would not survive without paid subscribers.

Hear ya on Friday
