A Taste Of Honey December 4 2014
Back behind the mike after two weeks in New Zealand, celebrating 90th birthdays, catching up with family and friends and re-acquainting myself with the countryside of the land of my birth -a great 10 hour train trip through the North Island and revelling in the green farms, the rugged volcanic plateau and its three mountain sentinels still topped by snow. Inspiring still and it provided me with quality time to put together a playlist that includes 9 time grammy award winner John Legend (pic.3rd from left), Rufus Wainwright( pic.far left), Rumer (pic. inside left) and Everything But The Girl (pic.4th from left). Contemporary music, some standards and as always stellar performances over a wide spectrum. He’s been called schmaltzy by many – and he is !!! Im talking about Barry Manilow who I had the honour to work with over many years – he is an amazing entertainer and one cannot help but admire his vision, songwriting and production skills. They are evidenced by his new album of duets with artistes who have passed away and Barry has re-recorded and re-orchestrated all the music of standards and pop songs with artistes such as Mama Cass, Judy Garland, Andy Williams, Frankie Lymon and others -there is a little sample in today’s show so you can listen and make your own mind up on the offerings.
Together with new tracks of great songs by Annie Lennox, Bryan Adams, Shawn Colvin, Lady Gaga and others, I am delighted to be able to present for your listening pleasure another 90 minutes of ‘A Taste of Honey’.
