A Taste Of Honey July 10 2014
I never dreamed that I would be a senior executive in the music business-luck,timing and marketing disciplines from an entirely different product line opened the door in 1976.During that time I have had a ball and it was never a job but a way of life. And we all think we are bullet proof as we enjoy the success of the business.I have worked with amazing people across the world and today I reflect in no small part on two of those people who have recently passed away. Ms.Chrissie Harwood,SVP International BMG who introduced me to Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox(The Eurythmics),pictured far left and worked with me to help sell literally millions of albums of theirs worldwide.
Peter Dawkins also left us this week-Peter started his career in New Zealand and became a senior executive in his native country, Australia and the UK. During that time he signed and produced many solo artistes and groups among them Dragon(Mark Hunter vocalist pic.inner right),Air Supply(pic.far right),Australian Crawl,Sharon O’Neill,Matt Finish,Russell Morris,Billy Thorpe and Mi-Sex.In addition my thoughts go out to a very good friend and mentor of mine and Eastside supporter, Professor Martin James who takes on a major health challenge – the Matt Monro (pic.inner left) tracks are for you.I have focussed on these people, the legacy we continue to share as a result of their efforts and I silently reflect on their positive attitude (that was) and is part of the spirit that binds us all and assists in helping us navigate our lives. In addition there is the music without which life generally would be extremely dull(in my humble opinion)-so RIP Chrissie and Peter and good luck Martin -I hope you like the rest of the music chosen today.
