sammy cahnsteve tyrellFor some reason which I am unable to put my finger on,Steve Tyrell(pic.left)is relatively unknown outside of North America – I really like his playing, his arrangements plus his unique vocal style and his new album inspired by the songs of Sammy Cahn(pic.right)helped inspire today’s programme.Sammy Cahn whose lyrics were complemented by the music of Jimmy Van Heusen,Jules Styne,Gene de Paul amongst others has charmed fans for years and the fact that he had the likes of Frank Sinatra,Dean Martin,Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn to interpret his amazing lyrics just adds to the legacy of one of The Great American Songbook’s finest sons.
