SONGSTRESS is defined as ‘a woman who performs songs,especially ballads or popular songs and/or a woman who writes songs’ so as a follow up top last weeks CROONERS program,todays music features a small part of the music that encompasses the ‘SONGSTRESS’ genre- by no means a definitive program as that is impossible in 90 minutes. HOWEVER Abbey Lincoln,Anita O’Day,Carmen McCrae,Judy Garland,Nina Simone,Annie Ross,Ella Fitzgerald,Rosemary Clooney,Jeri Southern,Nancy Wilson,Billie Holiday (pic. right),Tina Turner,Sarah Vaughan,Julie London,Peggy Lee,Diana Krall,Barbra Streisand,Diana Ross,Blossom Dearie and Amy Winehouse(pic. left) pave the way for their sisters in the future-THESE artistes  have given us a writing,performing and an arranging legacy of work that will forever inspire future artistes.Their collective number of albums sold worldwide,their awards,their stories are inspirational,emotional and in cases quite sad but the pleasure they gave to the world through their talent continues today(and will likely never be repeated in terms of their collective achievements)
