A Taste Of Honey November 12 2015
I fell in love with James Bond when I was 15 and read “Dr No”. What normal red blooded teenage boy in the 60’s wouldn’t ? Intrigue, danger, sex, violence, slick heroes and extreme villains – perfect stuff. When it was announced that the book would be made into a movie, I was delighted but wondered how this book and its content could be realistically made into a movie without losing the the vibe. I went to see the movie at opening weekend and marvelled in the movie from the opening scenes, the music, Sean Connery, his suits and his dialogue, the exotic locations, the Sunbeam Alpine sequence, the winks and nods to Ursula Andress and the other ladies that featured -gotta love Sean ! – I went back and saw it 3 times. 53 years and 24 Bond films later , I am looking forward to seeing the new movie “Spectre” this coming weekend.
It is clear there we all have our personal favourites over the years and there have been some “stinkers” in my opinion, but one cannot deny the entertainment value that the THIRD most successful movie franchise of all time has bought to the general public.
In addition the franchise has brought us 24 great songs in addition to the original theme music which is common to all the movies and year on year the producers have kept the theme songs current by having cutting edge artistes performing the main song.
This week’s programme features 18 of the 24 title songs with some chat about the history of the franchise.
In passing the new release “SPECTRE” has grossed over US$300 million in the first two weeks globally putting it on track for the biggest Bond ever. Can’t wait !
