AFTRS Open Winter School is your foot in the door

So, you’re lying awake at night thinking of an amazing movie plot line, brought to life with a shot-by-shot script, filmed in 3D, directed, written by and starring you. In a pioneering move, you’ve have had the whole thing tied in with your own radio chat show discussing the finer points of your skilled work – that’s before you start casting for the pilot of the continuation through a cinematic TV series…
If you’re 18 or over and keen to work in the Radio, Film or TV industry, or perhaps are already have a foot in the door and need new skills to progress your career, you can take your vision and learn how to make it real with AFTRS Open’s Winter School.
From late June to mid-July, AFTRS Open – the short course program of the Australian Film Television and Radio School -offers intensive, hands-on workshops in its state-of-the-art Sydney studios. You’ll be taught by Industry professionals currently working in the film, television and radio industry and have access to the latest equipment.
Starting with the Announcing and Presentation two-day course this weekend (11 – 12 May), you can go on to learn essential radio skills from experienced radio industry professionals in Intro to Radio (Mon 8 – Fri 12 July). Develop your own on-air persona and learn skills to develop your career in the media in Intro to TV & Radio Presenting (Mon 24 – Fri 28 June) or learn how to write a completed film script in Short Film Screenwriting (Mon 1 – Fri 5 July), and make a short film in just five days in Filmmaking (Mon 8 – Fri 12 July).

ANNOUNCING AND PRESENTATION
AFTRS Open’s two day course is A fantastic opportunity to refine your live presentation, announcing and script reading skills and develop skills in selecting and preparing radio content, voice skills plus the use of professional on air studio equipment.
INTRO TO TV & RADIO PRESENTING
Develop your own unique, on-air persona and learn skills to develop your career in the media. This intensive introduction to presenting skills for TV and Radio includes practical tuition in on camera presenting skills, voice over, announcing and on-camera interviews.
SHORT FILM SCREENWRITING
Write a completed short film script in just five days! Working with industry experts, learn how to take a story from initial idea, through treatment and draft stage, all the way to a finished, polished script ready to be pitched. One of the scripts written in this workshop will be chosen by a panel of AFTRS Open experts to be made into a short film in ‘Filmmaking Intensive’ – Week 2 of Summer School.
FILMMAKING
Make a short film in just five days! Work in an AFTRS state-of-the-art film studio, taking a screenplay from week 1 of Summer School from script to screen. Experienced Industry professionals will guide you with lectures and practical exercises to develop your directing, cinematography and post-production skills. Plus invite your family and friends for our Summer School Screening at the end of the course.
INTRODUCTION TO RADIO
Learn essential radio skills from experienced radio industry professionals and gain the confidence to begin your career in radio. From roles and responsibilities and announcing and presentation, to editing and studio skills we’ve got it all covered.
