AFTRS Short Courses Now Open!
If you want to learn a new skill and are not sure where to start, AFTRS runs a broad range of two-day introductory Short Courses many at weekends.
These courses, all taught by current industry professionals, will give you a thorough outline of the skills and knowledge required to follow specific career paths to help you work out where you’d like to head.
Introductory courses
- Weekend courses include: Intro to Screenwriting (9-10 March), Intro to Documentary (16-17 March), Intro to Producing (23-24 March), Intro to Production Design (27-28 April).
- One & two day courses include: Budgeting Fundamentals (23-24 Feb), Storytelling for Business (11 March), Managing Video Production (14 March), Mobile Content Creation (15 March), Premiere Pro Fundamentals (21-22 March), Camera & Sound Fundamentals (4-5 May).
Online courses
AFTRS offers short courses online so you can study at times that suit you, wherever you live. These courses cover a broad range of filmmaking disciplines and run for between 5 and 10 weeks with weekly video tutorials and course work.

Podcasting Fundamentals – get practical advice and skills training from experts and learn how to take your podcast from an idea to a completed ready to upload file. (Starts 28 Feb, 6 weeks)
Mobile Content Creation – learn how to shoot and edit quality video with your iPhone, iPad or Android device. (Starts 11 March, 5 weeks)
Writing a TV Series: Online – Learn the fundamentals of creating viable and original TV drama and comedy series concepts. (Starts 14 March, 10 weeks)
Screenwriting for Film; Online – Streamline your screenwriting process with this 100% online course that focuses on concept, structure, story and character. (Starts 28 April, 10 weeks)
Director’s Journey – This eight-week online course is designed for emerging filmmakers, offering advanced insight into the role of the director to help take your craft to the next level. (Starts 29 April)
