‘Dirty Soul’ by Chich and the Soul Messengers is Eastside Radio’s Album of the Week.
The sophomore recording showcases the raw talents of a quartet with a passion for the truth in music. Hear the sounds of Bill Withers, Donny Hathaway, Tim Buckley and more bleed through track after track of pure soulful original orchestrations. The recording process itself was compressed over one Valentines weekend within the hallow walls of Leichhardt’s Linear Studios. All tracks, the majority of which were penned by front man Chich, were recorded LIVE just as their bluesy and soulful forefathers did, and the way the outfit perform best.
The album explores a plethora of issues such as love, loss, regret, and social change all of which have endured the test of time by remaining relatable to the everyday struggles of society. With this lyrical sensitivity in mind, supported by a brotherhood of artists dedicated to their craft, we’re sure their work will continue to resonate just as well and for as long as their idols. Previous accolades include their debut album ‘I’m Alive’ securing the number one spot on the national Reverbnation Soul/R&B chart and the Top 40 ranks of the Australian Blues and Roots chart.

A purist at heart, here is what Chich had to say about music and the recording process:
“Technology for recorded music has never been so sophisticated, but I think we’ve forgotten something important along the way. Technology is great and can have an important role in creating music, but music isn’t always about perfection. The wonderful soul records of the 60s and 70s were recorded live, sounded great and were perfect despite their imperfections. Our whole vibe is that the truest music is recorded when the engineer sets the mics and just lets the tape roll, then we pick the best, most vibe-y take. Sure there might be mistakes, but fabricated perfection shouldn’t be the goal, great sounding tracks where you can sense the feeling of the musicians in the room should be the goal.”
