Alma Orquestra Brings Portuguese Sound

Five-Piece Ensembles Transports Audience to Lisbon

The evocative music of Alma Orquestra will transport Foundry616 to the steep, cobbled streets of Lisbon on Friday, April 13th.

The five-piece ensemble draws inspiration from Fado and folkloric songs of the Iberian Peninsula, as well as music from Portuguese-speaking nations of Cape Verde, Angola, and Brazil.

Rapidly gaining a reputation for their beautiful melodies and captivating grooves, Alma Orquestra have been selling-out shows across Sydney since their formation 12 months ago.

Featuring prominent Fado songstress and violinist Mandie Vieira alongside fellow Portuguese-Australian Loretta Palmeiro (saxophone/clarinet/flute), the group comprises a stellar rhythm section of world-music specialists Guy Strazz, Steve Elphick, and Mike Quigley.
