For more than ten years, bass player, comnposer, band leader Lloyd Swanton has been putting together an account of his Uncle Stuart’s life and death as a Prisoner of War during the 1940s, in music, photographs and the spoken word. The project, named after the island on which Stuart was held, Ambon, premiered to a packed audience in Springwood in June. On 27th and 28th August Lloyd and the 12 piece ensemble he has put together to play Ambon, performed to Sydney audiences at the Sound Lounge. Thursday Drive presenter Mick Paddon interviewed Lloyd about putting the project together and what it has meant to him personally to have a connection with the Uncle he did not get to meet. The interview was originally put to air on Mick’s Drive show on August 27.
