Anton Delecca Quartet – The Healer

Eastside Radio’s album of the week is The Healer by the Anton Delecca Quartet.

Aside from his contribution to world-renowned band The Bamboos, Anton has extended his talents to create an album of sensational Jazz-inspired tunes.

After being influenced by a vast array of musical textures through his life, the third album from this Melbourne native contains songs of up to 8 minutes in length that envelope anyone listening in its gorgeously mellow sound. With contributions from competent muso’s Luke Howard, Daniel Farrugia and Jonathan Zion of the Luke Howard Trio, the combination of the sweet keys of the piano, subtle beats and ambience of percussion, a sweet acoustic bass line and of course Anton’s delectable tenor saxophone creates a divine sound.

Each track has its own story, with second track ‘Icarus’ exposing a sweet saxophone swing and a groove-infused under line, fifth track ‘Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered’ providing a more uplifting focus with a more crashing percussion, the album as a whole is an embodiment of emotion. With the title track of the album working as the closing to this magnificent piece, its position feels right: all instruments are in unison, working on a level playing field to mark the a sort of coming together of ideas and sounds.

A truly beautiful and thoughtful album, and unquestionably deserving of our album of the week here at Eastside Radio.
