Sydney Comedy Festival comedians and Belvoir Theatre show-Arts Friday with Margaux Dombkins

sydney comedy festivalHeath Franklin, Trevor Noah, Michele Lim and Lally Katz will entertain us. My first guest: Heath Franklin aka “Chopper” performs his 4th annual Anzac Day show- Anzac Day, the day Australia became a nation – The day we celebrate being an Australian, by calling people UnAustralian for doing UnAustralian things: like playing soccer, not laughing when you read, ‘Phuket’ or chucking a sickie on a public holiday. The day we all get pissed and forget to remember all those we are supposed to be remembering.

From two-up to harden the f**k up, Chopper (Heath Franklin) and his regiment of true blue comedy mates, fasten   bayonets, have a slice of damper and storm Sydney for a night of laughs.-Chopper

My second guestTrevor Noah is a South African comedian. Trevor Noah’s explosion onto the world comedy scene has been nothing short of meteoric with huge success in the UK and the US. His sharp wit, intelligent commentary, and unmistakable charm have established him as an extremely popular comedian with undoubted world-class potential.

trevornoah  Noah had his U.S. television debut on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, which resulted in multiple invitations to return and appear in signature sketches. He toured America with stand-up comedian Gabriel Iglesias playing to packed houses, and headlined club venues winning over audiences at every stop.

Noah presented his one-man show “The Racist” at the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe Festival (presented by Eddie  Izzard) in a sold out run that created a huge buzz with audiences and critics. Noah has just completed a three- month run across South Africa, and appeared in a six-week sold out run at London’s Soho Theatre.

“Michele is a natural comedian with an easy style”   “Laugh out loud funny”  “Lim’s comedy is easy to enjoy”

michele limIf you can’t stand pompous hipsters, ridiculous gym fees and general wankerness, Michele’s show “Limsanity & The Mayor Of Easy Street! (In 3D) is the show for you. No “joining fee” required.

My next guest:  Lally Katz tells us all about her  one-woman show “Stories I Want To Tell You In Person”.

On the one hand, Lally Katz has been writing the funniest and most original plays in the country for the last decade – Neighbourhood Watch, for example. On the other hand, Katz, Oscar Wilde-like, has been putting her genius into her life and only her talent into her work. Now the inevitable moment has come when the two must collide.

The thing is – and this is a true story – Katz was supposed to write a play about a fortune teller. But she spent her commission (and then some) actually going to a fortune teller. In New York. More than once. This is the story of what Katz has been doing instead of writing a play. It features Katz, on her own, as herself, embroiled in a tale of art, love, money, shoes, and the apocalypse (of course).Lally Katz

Anyone who’s met her will know that the word ‘irrepressible’ has nothing on Katz, even at her quietest. She makes chaos charming and catastrophe positively exuberant. She likes to be laughed at, and her method is to talk first and think later. Anything could happen. Seriously. ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN. It’s Lally Katz!

shows: Belvoir St Theatre          19 April – 26 May                   more info:   www.belvoir.com.au

I look forward to your company  10.30am – 12.00pm
