Message Stick: Indigenous Identity
ArtiFacts, Eastside.
Join me, Jane Raffan, for a program about Artbank, the national contemporary art rental initiative, and their latest exhibition focusing on Indigenous identity.
I’ll be interviewing Carrie Kibbler, Artbank’s Curator and Collection Manager. Carrie will be joining me to talk about Artbank’s business model, and some of the exhibitions they have toured internationally.
The second interview will look at the latest of the touring exhibitions in more depth: “Message Stick: Indigenous Identity in Urban Australia”.
Currently showing at the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts in New York is an exhibition called “Saying No: Reconciling Spirituality and Resistance in Indigenous Australian Art”. It has been curated by Melbourne artist Bindi Cole, who has stated that “The role of a contemporary Aboriginal artist is to provoke”. I’ll be talking with Carrie about this idea, and other messages conveyed by the exhibition.

The program’s music will be a mix of jazz and R&B…with art related instrumental soundscapes and compositions, and vocal tracks about black power.
As always, I look forward to your company.
