ArtiFacts, Eastside.

Join me, Jane Raffan, for a program about our neighbourhoods, and specifically, the Green Bans that saved them from destruction by developers in the 1970s and paved the way for dramatic changes to our city’s heritage and planning laws.

I’ll be interviewing Jo Holder, Director of the Cross Art Projects in Llankelly Place, Kings Cross.  Jo will be joining me to talk about her collaborative project, the Green Bans Art Walk, which commemorates the 40th Anniversary of Sydney’s famous Green Bans.

The Green Bans Art Walk aims to “capture the ideals and struggle to protect the character of the inner-city areas of Woolloomooloo, Darlinghurst and Kings Cross, the most brutal of the Green Ban struggles.”

More on the Cross Art Projects’ exhibition and Art Walks here: https://www.crossart.com.au/index.php/Archive/green-bans-art-walk.html

The program’s music will be a mix of jazz and R&B…with vocal and instrumental tracks about the character of cities, city life and neighbourhoods.

And listen out for a special track by one of the leaders of the Save Victoria Street movement, Mick Fowler, who lead a Dixie band called Mick Fowler & the Fowlhouse Five.

If you have questions or suggestions about the Arts Monday programs you can reach me at jraffan@ArtiFacts.net.au.

I look forward to your company.
