ArtiFacts Eastside.
Join me, Jane Raffan, for a program looking at the forgotten trade between Australia and India in the early days of the colony.
My guest is Michelle Linder, co-curator of the exhibition “East of India”, on show at the Australian National Maritime Museum until 18th August. We’ll be chatting about ships and shipwrecks, rice and rum, officers and officials, sailors, soldiers and servants, as well as some of the great works on display.
More on the exhibition here: https://www.anmm.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=2135
And the music? The playlist revels in the trade of cultural influences from India. Stay tuned for avant-garde jazz, some blues and a little funk with artists such as Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Taj Mahal, Ravi Harris & the Prophets, Alice Coltrane, Ry Cooder, William Parker, Hamid Drake, Jenny Scheinman and the trio known as Codona: Collin Walcott, Don Cherry and Naná Vasconcelos.
As always, I look forward to your company, 10:30 to noon.
Jane
